Ms. Wilson is in her second year as the Director of the Anna High School Coyettes Drill Team and her 15th year in public education. She’s thankful the drill team was brought back in 2022 and is excited to grow a thriving program.
Ms. Wilson began her dance training at the age of 3 in ballet and tap. She later trained in jazz, lyrical, musical theatre, modern and contemporary. She was a member of the Quintessence Ballet Company in Lewisville before discovering the drill team at the start of her high school career. Ms. Wilson was a 4 year member of the Marcus High School Marquettes where she served in 3 different dance leadership roles including Captain her Senior year. She was named Rookie of the Year, All-American Dance/Drill Team and Officer, toured Europe with American Dance/Drill Team, Miss High Kick and Marquette of the Year.
Ms. Wilson studied dance at Texas Woman's University, but fell in love with the University of North Texas where she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Recreation and Leisure Studies with an emphasis in Program Management and a minor in Health Promotions. She later pursued her teaching certificate in Dance & Physical Education.
She has also danced for the Lyric City Dance Company, starred as Sister Mary Leo in Nunsense at Grapevine’s Runway Theatre and was a member of DefiANCE Dance Company.
Ms. Wilson’s teaching experience includes public & private school dance and fitness to youth through active-aging adults. She’s taught at several local dance studios in Plano, Frisco, Corinth, McKinney and Allen over the past 20 years. She taught summer dance camps across the USA, was a veteran staff member for ESP Productions & the All-American Halftime Cast for the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida for 18 years every New Years. She has been an adjudicator for MA Dance for over a decade, local dance/drill team and officer tryouts, along with adjudicating & coordinating the Texas Dance Educators Association, Dance Educators Assessment of Learning (DEAL) in the DFW area.
Ms. Wilson was the Director of the Allen High School Color Guard, founded the Lowery Dance Company Stars and was the Assistant Director for the Allen High School Tallenettes in her 13 years with Allen ISD. She re-built the Lowery Dance Program, wrote a dance curriculum for Dance l-lV, and helped develop the high school program alongside the late Lisa Smentek. She co-choreographed FAME the musical along with being the lead choreographer for Once Upon a Mattress and The Addams Family.
Her passion for dance and drive to “push” dancers to the next level only excites her year after year. She feels her program teaches more than just dance, but life lessons that help mold young ladies into the women they become. Her former students are professional dancers, stars on Broadway, moms, doctors, lawyers, business owners, teachers and beautiful amazing women.
Her current team calls her Coach and she loves being a part of the Coyote community. Ms. Wilson feels very blessed to have the opportunity to build a full dance and drill team program at Anna High School and is looking forward to the years to come!💜
